Wells Cathedral: 3-4 April 2027

We will visit Wells Cathedral 3-4 April 2027 to sing all the weekend services. The choir previously visited Wells in 1984 for a week, and 2017 for a weekend.
Wells has been inspiring pilgrims for nearly 850 years, it’s the earliest English Cathedral to be built in the Gothic style.
The organ at Wells is under repair; a temporary digital instrument will be available.
Accommodation
Choir members will be responsible for booking their own accommodation for the weekend.
More details of the visit will be available in due course.
Southwell Minster: 16-22 August 2027

Visited by the choir for a week in 1995 and a weekend in 2014.
The late thirteenth century Chapter House of Southwell Minster is the architectural glory of the building, and the fluid carvings of plants, animals and green men known collectively as The Leaves of Southwell – are of quite exceptional quality and regarded as the finest example of naturalistic carving in the United Kingdom.
The organ is described in detail on the Southwell Minster website.
Accommodation
We will be staying at the Brackenhurst Campus of Nottingham Trent University which is just outside the town.

August 2026 – Norwich Cathedral
We sang at Norwich Cathedral 17-23 August 2026
Our promotional leaflet included details of our visit to Norwich Cathedral.

The choir poses on the balcony outside the Song School at the end of Saturday’s Evensong.

- Daily Schedule
- (N.B. because Norwich has its own voluntary choir called ”Norwich Cathedral Chamber Choir‘, we were referred to there temporarily as ‘The English Cathedrals Chamber Choir’ to avoid local confusion)
Our choir has a bursary fund and a scholarship scheme for young singers. During the week at Norwich we hosted Benji Grønlie as our first ‘William Wingate Scholar’ to assist with the development and presentation of the music.

Benji Grønlie and Choir Director Chris Pilgrim rehearsing the Choir in Noble’s Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in Bb.
We stayed at the UEA’s Broadview Hotel in Norwich. Regular bus services 25 and 26A were used to make the trip to Norwich Centre.
There was a good range of musical styles for our visit to Norwich. Chris Pilgrim and Alex Berry shared the duties of playing the organ and directing the choir between them during the week along with William Wingate Scholar Benji Grønlie.
